Ode to My H-Hook

Ode to My H-Hook
By Beverly Witzel
Oh, with joy I love to crochet!
That is why I do it each day.
I crochet at home and afar,
I even crochet in our car.
H-hook has been my tool of choice,
I only wish it had a voice.
If it could talk, I'm sure it would tell,
Where I should look to see where it fell.
For my dilemma seems to be,
My H-hook gets away from me.
Whenever I have to set it aside,
My naughty H-hook always tries to hide.
Larry and I must search our car,
Even when we did not drive far.
How the strain shows on our faces
As we search its hiding places.
H-hook has hidden on the floor,
Even found it next to the door.
It has gone down the side of my seat.
H-hook has hidden under my feet.
Searching for H-hook has gotten old.
Once it was found in my project's fold!
Can't count all the times H-hook's been bought new,
for when it gets lost what else can we do!
We have decided H-hook has its own mind,
Making it most difficult for us to find.
Not using H-hook might be the best,
Finally giving Larry a rest.
Maybe a doily project, I'll do
Using the friendlier hook, number 2!
On our next road trip, I'll not take a hook!
Instead I will try just reading a book!
So H-hook you have been my good friend.
But in our car the friendship must end.
Thank you, Larry, for searching when I was in a bind,
Now a book on the floor will be easier to find!

~ Poem by Beverly Witzel ~
My husband always tells me,
"You can never have too many H-hooks!"

Goin' Bananas with Kindness

I love opportunities to bless people!  Don't you?
I have an elderly customer who is a regular at my store.  She loves monkeys and had planned an outing to the zoo.
She always wears a lanyard to hold her keys, and it was getting quite worn out.  So, wouldn't you know it, I came across some cute monkey ribbon, and got to crafting.  I thought she'd feel special to have something new to wear to the zoo.

I want to show you this project, because I thought it turned out really cute.

I made a lanyard and a hair bow.

I added some shiny beads.
(She's gotta have bling!)

I hope you are inspired by this project.
It was easy to make, and she loved it, too!

DIY Tutu Ballet Bags

Here's an idea for your little ballerina:
A bag to carry her ballet shoes.

I prefer to make my own bags, but I made this an altered bag project.  They are plain canvas bags, to which I attached tulle.

I sew-on my embellishments for extra durability, but know many people who just use their hot glue gun.  Do whichever you prefer.

Upcycled Jean Purse

I made this cute little purse out of the leg part of a pair of jeans.
I added some tulle, lace, and a flower (of course).

I'm thinking I'll have to make some of these for Priceless Samples!  I love making crafts to support a good cause!

Bedazzled Canvas Bag

Here is another way to dress up reusable bags.
Bedazzle.

I cannot believe I didn't own a Bedazzler sooner.
I just (finally) purchased one (half-price!!!).
My intentions are to dazzle-up my handmade bootie bags.
I practiced first on a canvas bag (as shown), and was pleased with how easy it was to create my design without using a pattern.

I will keep having fun with this, and will have to post more designs to inspire you crafters out there!

Reuse Designs Off Old T-Shirts

Some upcycle inspiration for your day!
Reuse those fun designs off old t-shirts!

I made this bag for my niece's birthday.
She has a Pug, so I went with the Pug theme.
I found a really cute "Girl and her Pugs" design on a child's t-shirt.  The shirt was for a much younger girl than my niece, and it had a few stains on the sleeves.  But the design remained in perfect condition.  So I cut out the design and attached it to a bag by sewing it into place.  I also added some other hand-sewn embellishments.

Normally I make my own bags, but this time I used some pre-made bags someone had given to me.  I chose black for the outside, flipped the pink bag inside-out and inserted it as a lining, then stitched them together.

I did a fun hand-sewn stitch with pink thread to attach the bags together.

Here's the finished product!
